Ian’s role at Pathways involves supporting P3 housing on tenancy visits. He visits clients in their homes and make sure they are healthy and supporting themselves with enough benefits, food, mental health and prescriptions.
Ian has a spent much of his time helping the people of chesterfield. He was formerly Chesterfield Foodbank Coordinator, member of Central Methodist, Street Pastor, Trustee of Loundsley Green Community Centre and member of Chesterfield Nightshelter management committee.
Ian got involved in Pathways when Pathways was formed by his friend Sue Walker and has supported it ever since. He offered his services a few years ago to go out on Outreach to find rough sleepers in the town centre, and supported the staff by cooking breakfast for the clients on a Thursday and Tuesday mornings.
He has always supported people worse off than himself having been out of work several times and homeless once in his life (sofa surfing with friends). His favourite part of volunteering for Pathways is “the basic fact that people can change and make a difference to their lives if they get a helping hand”.
Here’s what our General Manager Sian said about Ian:
“Ian started volunteering at Pathways the same year I started working at Pathways, so he has always been an essential part of the team. From early morning outreach to cooking breakfasts and tenancy support, even helping us recreate the Pathways workspace, there is nothing that is too much trouble for Ian. Ian has been extremely valuable and reliable volunteer and we are lucky to have him at Pathways. Ian is always cheerful, practical and a listening ear to the people who access Pathways support”.
Please help us to thank Ian, Pathways wouldn’t be the same without him and the hard work he puts into helping our clients.
