October Volunteer Spotlight- Toni

October Volunteer Spotlight- Toni

Our October Volunteer spotlight is Toni. She currently works as the Head Therapist in a hotel in Ashbourne. She has two boys aged 10 and 12 that are both football mad and spends a lot of time watching them train or play.

Toni started volunteering for Pathways a while ago but since Covid-19 she has been able to volunteer more with us. Toni currently volunteers as a telephone befriender, as well as joining us on outreach work, helped with the restoration class and raised some money at the great garden sleep out. She always helped the homeless whenever she can, but she says she always knew there was more she could do to really make a difference. This led to her looking at ways to help locally and that’s when she came across Pathways. She found us online and completed an application form. She says “If I can make a difference to just one person’s life to help get them off the streets then I will be happy; anymore will be a bonus”.
Toni’s favourite thing about Pathways is that everything she does at Pathways is helping someone even if it seems like it may be small, but it makes such a difference. She also said, “All the staff and volunteers I have come across are all lovely and all so passionate about the work they do which is so nice to see”. Toni’s most rewarding part of volunteering for Pathways so far has been the amazing work she put into the great garden sleep out. She raised a wonderful amount of money for Pathways which will be put towards clothing or items needed to make a homeless person’s day or night warmer or more comfortable. Her sons and their friends also joined in and took a real interest I the reasons behind why it was important.

Our Volunteer Coordinator Claire said about Toni:

“Toni has only been with us for a short while but her commitment and energy has impressed us all. She is happy to tackle any role we throw at her such as outreach, group activities, and befriending. Toni even got her family involved in our Great Garden Sleep Out raising money for our charity and being part of the zoom activities! Toni is easy to be around and radiates kindness and empathy, she is always willing to juggle her work and home life to help us here at Pathways. We are very lucky to have her in our volunteering family.”

Everyone at Pathways would like to say a massive thank you to Toni for all her hard work.
