Peter James Shelton of Newbold, Chesterfield, passed away on October 25, 2025, at the aged 99 years. 

Peter was born in Chesterfield; he was a lifelong local resident. His distinguished career in education began as a headteacher at a special education school before he became a lecturer in special education at Sheffield Hallam University. 

Peter was instrumental in helping to establish Pathways homeless charity. Along with his wife Kathleen. They were 2 of a group of people involved in ‘Churches Together in Newbold’ who came together to establish a soup kitchen to support homeless people. They were also integral in the development of the service to help people by introducing a drop-in centre.

Peter remained a steadfast supporter and advocate of Pathways from its inception. His vision, compassion, and determination to help others have left an enduring legacy, and he will be remembered with deep gratitude.
