Trustee Position

Treasurer

  • 6-7 hours per month

Pathways is a Chesterfield based charity offering support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our mission is to prevent homelessness. We aim to eradicate rough sleeping within our community, and to support those without a permanent home to obtain and maintain one by providing clients with the help, skills and the confidence to resolve their issues of homelessness.

Pathways is the single point of access for single homeless people in Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and Bolsover.

We are looking for a Treasurer to lead on the financial oversight of the charity. We are seeking someone with accounting or treasurer experience who is passionate about supporting vulnerable people and has the drive to develop the charity and service.

Job description

Reporting to: Chair of the Board

Responsible for: None

Purpose

  1. To oversee the financial management of the charity

Key objectives

  • To oversee the financial systems and policies of the charity
  • To supervise and advise the Office Manager with the day to day financial operations of the charity
  • To ensure the charity complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • To monitor the financial stability of the charity
  • To ensure the external accountants produce accurate year end accounts.
  • To be an active member of the Board of Trustees

Key Tasks

  • To regularly review the financial position of the charity through reports produced by the Office Manager including Cash flow, P+L, Balance sheet and a written report.
  • To keep the Board of Trustees informed of the financial position of the charity and ensure they understand their financial responsibilities
  • Advising on the financial implications of any strategic plans of the charity
  • Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in formats required by funders and relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission.
  • Oversee the external accountants for the production of the year end accounts (independent examination).
  • To be responsible for the management of the charity’s bank accounts
  • To ensure the charity has appropriate reserves and financial controls policies in place
  • To ensure the book keeping software used remains adequate for the charity (currently Xero).
  • To be responsible for developing the financial function of the charity, in conjunction with the Office Manager

General

  • To attend monthly Board meetings
  • To participate in activities which promote Pathways where appropriate.
