Say hello to Steve, who joined Pathways in April 2025—although it already feels like he’s always been here!
Before officially joining the team, Steve spent a year volunteering at Rough Sleepers Breakfast, seeing first-hand the impact Pathways has on people’s lives. That experience clearly stuck, because when a role came up… he jumped at it faster than Everton concede in the first half. (Sorry Steve—we had to ⚽😉)
Steve is a huge Everton FC fan and can often be found travelling the country following them—emotionally prepared for highs, lows, and everything in between. When football isn’t breaking his heart, he’s sharpening his creative side, having just enrolled on a 6-week Acrylic Arts course to rediscover a love of art and pick up some new techniques.
With lived experience of recovery himself, Steve previously worked at DRP, working closely with Recovery Workers—so supporting others on their recovery journey isn’t just a job, it’s personal. Having already volunteered at Pathways and seen how much groups benefited clients, this role felt like the perfect fit.
So what does Steve actually do?
His role includes:
✅ Recruiting and training volunteers
✅ Delivering inductions, safeguarding, boundaries, confidentiality & health & safety.
✅ Planning and running activity groups Monday to Friday
✅ Buying supplies
✅ Facilitating a SMART Recovery group, open to anyone seeking support with addictive behaviours
Steve loves the fact that no two days are the same, thrives in group environments, and brings energy, humour, and heart to everything he does.
💬 “Seeing a client who was really struggling get housed, grow in confidence, become a peer mentor, and start enjoying groups regularly… that’s the best feeling.”
We’re incredibly lucky to have Steve on the team—proof that passion, lived experience, and a good sense of humour go a long way 💚👏
Here is what Sarah our CEO had to say about Steve:
“Steve is a warm and friendly member of the team. He is open about his own journey which helps others to open up about theirs. I always know when Steve is in the building because I can hear him whistling or singing ( usually 80s ballads!)”
