Our statistics tell a powerful story. Every number represents a person, and the work we do truly cannot be underestimated. We support individuals facing homelessness for many different reasons, each with their own story and challenges.
In January, we received 51 referrals, worked with 216 individuals, and successfully housed 20 people.
In February, we received 53 referrals, supported 200 individuals, and helped 13 people secure housing.
Behind every one of these numbers is a real person whose life has been turned upside down.
Recently, we supported a gentleman who had been caring for his father, who lives with dementia. As his father’s condition progressed, he became violent, and for the carer’s safety the police had to remove him from the home. Through no fault of his own, he suddenly found himself unable to return to the family house and is temporarily homeless.
Situations like this show how quickly circumstances can change. For many people, having a strong support network of friends and family can make all the difference. A sofa to sleep on for a few nights, someone to talk to when things feel overwhelming, or a helping hand at the right moment can prevent someone from slipping into homelessness.
Unfortunately, many of the people we meet don’t have that network. Without that support, it’s easy to fall into a cycle of homelessness that can be incredibly difficult to navigate.
That’s why Pathways exists, to help those people to find a way through one of the most stressful and scary moments in their lives.
