Meet Sophie – A Journey Just Beginning

About a month ago, Sophie walked through our doors for the first time, accompanied by her social worker. Things were tough — she’d just been placed in emergency accommodation by Bolsover Council, and the future felt uncertain.

Not long after that first meeting, we sat down together for a proper chat. This time, she brought her boyfriend along. The situation had changed again — Sophie had been evicted from her emergency accommodation and was now back at her mum’s, sofa surfing while trying to figure out her next steps.

We talked through all the options available: applying for council housing, looking at private rentals, and considering supported living. But it wasn’t a straightforward choice.

Sophie was honest — she wasn’t sure if her mental health could handle a supported living environment right now. She needed some time to think it through, and we understood that completely.

So, we agreed to take a pause. I scheduled a call with her for the following week, giving her space while making sure she knew we were still right here beside her.

Because that’s what support looks like — not rushing decisions, but walking the journey together, one step at a time.
