Meet Alex Cuthbertson, our Recovery Lead here at Pathways. Alex joined the team in April 2025, sharing the role of Recovery Hub Lead and Activities Coordinator with Steve, and has already become a valued part of our community.
Alex brings a strong creative spark to Pathways. A passionate artist, they enjoy painting, drawing, and creating murals and commissioned work in their spare time—with a dream of doing this full time in the future. When not creating art, Alex can often be found walking in the Peak District, travelling to new places, following football, playing badminton, or enjoying a good book or documentary.
After being made redundant at the end of 2024, Alex was looking for a fresh direction away from traditional care work. Having previously delivered a graffiti workshop for Pathways, they already understood the organisation’s values and felt it would be a great place to work.
In their role, Alex helps run a wide range of weekly groups including Games Groups, Arts & Crafts, Gardening, Wellbeing Classes, and a SMART Recovery meeting every Wednesday evening. One of the highlights for Alex is planning and delivering art sessions and seeing the creativity and confidence of service users grow week by week.
💬 “I love meeting and supporting new people, seeing their creative side come out during art groups, and supporting people in recovery.”
We’re proud to have Alex on the Pathways team—bringing creativity, compassion, and inspiration to everything they do. 🎨💚
Here’s what our CEO Sarah said about Alex:
“Alex has a natural laidback-ness about him which puts everyone he meets at ease. That combined with his sense of humour makes the groups he leads welcoming and fun. Alex is an exceptionally talented artist and I plan to make the most of this creativity at Pathways”.
