Nathan has been a housing and homelessness support worker since September 2023 having previously being a service user of Pathways and a volunteer. Nathan originally started volunteering to improve his mental health and to provide much needed routine. As time progressed Nathans confidence grew and in his own words said, “I wanted to inspire others and show that turning your life around is possible.”
In Nathans spare time he loves playing football and supporting Middlesbrough FC. He travels as much as he can to see his team play! Being a father Nathan adores spending time with his son and they love cycling together and watching the Boro!
Since September Nathan has helped and supported many individuals who use our service, completing assessments, making housing referrals as well as being the listener that people need when in crisis. Nathan enjoys meeting and working with people, despite him helping others he has said he has learnt so much from both staff and the people he supports, he feels that the rewards of the job are invaluable, and he gets the support he needs too.
Nathan said “Pathways has enabled me to change my own mindset, I came here still quite low in mood, I used to beat myself up, whereas now I am proud of myself and I am so grateful to the staff at Pathways, I feel like they have saved my life.”
Here’s what Sian our CEO has to say about Nathan:
“It has been an absolute pleasure to see Nathan transition from someone accessing our service to now being a member of the housing team. Nathan is hard working and has a real passion for his work. You can see Nathan’s determination to support people to help change their lives. Nathan is about to take a lead in a new project at Pathways to enhance our work around lived experience. I am really excited to work on this with Nathan on this”.
