Sue our wonderful drop in volunteer has been working with us for over 12 months and is enjoying her role working with the Pathways team. Sue has been married and together with her husband for over 40 years and originally from London still has that southern twang!

Sue loves the outdoors, travel, walking and fresh air! She’s a fitty for a lady of her age, we all say so!

Once Sue retired, she knew she wanted to volunteer in an area and field that interested her, which was working with and helping people. Sue has worked with people for over 50 years, it is her lifetime’s work, working with adults and young people in a variety of situations: youth work, women’s refuge, creative arts, dance and drama performances with people with special needs and other projects.

Sue was passing Pathways one day and decided to call in as she was interested in its function and wanted to enquire about volunteering. She wanted to get out of the house and meet likeminded people. Sue has learnt new skills and really enjoys soaking up information and having the sense of belonging.

During drop in Sue often provides support during appointments between staff and the people who we work with, she observes the adversity people endure and how people live day to day with the problems that they face. Her role includes drop-in support (handing out food and essentials to those in need), donation sorting, general support of staff and service users, and dentist support on the required days.

Sue particularly enjoyed outreach with Nathan (housing worker) visiting a lady sleeping in a tent, helping her with her belongings and chatting with her. It’s people and contact where Sue really thrives.

This is what our Housing Manager has said about Sue:

Sue is an absolute pleasure to have on our team of volunteers.  She goes over and above with her time and generosity and has great empathy towards our clients.  Sue has a great sense of humour, and I can honestly say that she brightens everyone’s day with her smile, and her enthusiasm for helping in any way she can is amazing”
